Agora Portals International School was the first school on the Balearic Islands to be accepted as certified International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The IB is an internationally recognised qualification that is designed to prepare pupils to further their academic studies anywhere in the world and to facilitate greater academic mobility. The IB courses offer an excellent training in critical and analytic thinking and encourage intellectual independence, community participation, linguistic fluency and an awareness of the enormous, political, cultural, environmental and social challenges of the world in which we live today. IB students are motivated and proactive, open-minded and interested in different cultures and ways of thinking.
The IB’s Diploma Program (DP) enables students to access the most prestigious universities in the world. It is a bilingual Spanish/English programme that helps pupils to develop a range of skills that are ideal for pursuing an international career. The IB pass rate at Agora Portals is 100% and a greater proportion of IB students overall end up gaining access to university. Students who obtain the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Spain are not required to sit the Spanish University Entrance Examinations (Selectividad), as the points gained from the IB courses can be validated for entry to Spanish Universities.
“The International Baccalaureate is an excellent opportunity on a professional level for any teacher. For students it means the opportunity to improve their curriculum and skills. The values transmitted by the Diploma Programme encourage creativity, solidarity and self-discipline. They learn to investigate and to reflect perceptively and get used to scientific methodology. All this guarantees them the optimal preparation for and greater possibility of success in their university studies.”
“The International Baccalaureate helps pupils to be more constructive and critical people, given that it is they who have to think and learn at their own pace, to then express their own ideas orally or in writing. Furthermore, they become aware that the world is multicultural, and what better way to do this than by learning a second language, focusing of the different characteristics and peculiarities of that language. Lastly, pupils who do this Baccalaureate must be constant in order to achieve their objectives, this being the tool which will make the become people who through their individuality are able to contribute to the world.”
“IB is not only books and theory. It feeds your creativity, solidarity and independent thinking. It opens your eyes to the world and makes you a disciplined person. I would not change this formation for anything”
“I have learned to carry out investigation projects with a very similar methodology to the one used at university. It has shown me that continuous effort gives results”
“IB is demanding, it makes you learn from yourself, on your own and in group. Its variety of disciplines enables you to achieve skills both in science and mathematics as well as in art and languages”
“IB prepares you to be an independent person, to carry out a successful university career”
